Leaders of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) on Thursday reaffirmed their commitment to pursuing constitutional and democratic means for the implementation of an Islamic welfare system in Pakistan, while expressing concern over security threats faced by religious scholars and party workers. The pledge was made at a workers' convention organized by the party's Mohmand chapter at Captain Roohullah Shaheed Sports Stadium in Ghalanai. The event was held to commemorate the religious, educational and public services of the late Sheikh-ul-Hadith Maulana Idrees and was attended by a large number of party workers, religious scholars, tribal elders and local residents.
Speakers Pay Tribute to Maulana Idrees
Addressing the gathering, former MNA Maulana Jamaluddin, former senators Maulana Abdul Rashid and Hafiz Rasheed Ahmad, Mufti Hakim Haqqani, Maulana Ainuddin, JUI-F Mohmand amir Maulana Arif Haqqani and district general secretary Mohammad Talha Faqir paid tribute to Maulana Idrees, describing him as a distinguished religious scholar whose contributions to Islamic education and community welfare left a lasting legacy. The speakers said JUI-F had consistently advocated constitutional supremacy, democratic values, peace and the enforcement of Islamic principles within the framework of the Constitution. They maintained that the party's political struggle was aimed at promoting justice, public welfare and national unity.
Concerns Over Violence and Security
Expressing concern over incidents of violence involving members of the clergy and political workers, the leaders called for transparent investigations and urged the authorities to ensure justice for victims and adequate protection for religious institutions. They emphasized that political differences with governments should not be interpreted as opposition to the state, adding that constructive criticism and democratic accountability were essential elements of a functioning political system.
Call for Development in Merged Districts
Referring to challenges facing the merged tribal districts and the wider Pashtun belt, the speakers called for greater investment in development, education, peacebuilding and economic opportunities. They said the region's longstanding issues required practical solutions, inclusive governance and sustained public engagement. The leaders also warned against efforts to deepen social and political divisions, urging all stakeholders to work collectively for national cohesion, stability and harmony.
Reiterating their commitment to peaceful political engagement, they said JUI-F would continue pursuing its objectives through constitutional and democratic means despite political challenges. The convention concluded with prayers for Maulana Idrees and other victims of violence, as well as for lasting peace, stability and prosperity in the country.
