16 Killed, 96 Injured in Sindh Thunderstorm

KARACHI: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Sindh reported that at least 16 people lost their lives and 96 sustained injuries in thunderstorm and rain-related incidents across various districts of Sindh. Additionally, over 100 trees were uprooted due to the severe weather.

Details of Casualties and Damage

According to the PDMA report, severe weather conditions, including strong winds, thunder, and lightning, caused loss of lives and injuries. A total of 38 houses were damaged, and 102 trees fell. The worst-hit district was Shaheed Benazir Abad, where 10 people, including four women, lost their lives and 32 others were injured, as informed by Director General PDMA Sindh, Salman Shah.

In Kashmore, three deaths and nine injuries were reported, while in Ghotki, one woman died and 54 people were injured. In Tharparkar, a woman lost her life due to a lightning strike, and in Qambar Shahdadkot, an elderly woman died during the rain and storm.

Rescue and Relief Operations

The DG PDMA Sindh stated that rescue and relief operations are underway in the affected districts. Local administrations have been mobilized to assess the damage and provide assistance. The authority is monitoring the situation across the province in coordination with district administrations.

All District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) have been put on high alert and directed to ensure emergency preparedness in view of potentially worsening weather conditions. Citizens are urged to exercise caution during thunderstorms, avoid unnecessary travel to affected areas, and follow safety instructions.
