A 5.4-magnitude earthquake struck Islamabad and several districts of Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Monday, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA). No casualties or property damage have been reported so far.
Epicenter and Depth
The earthquake's epicenter was located in the Hindu Kush region at a depth of 215 kilometers, a PDMA spokesperson confirmed. The depth helped mitigate surface impact, reducing the likelihood of severe damage.
Affected Areas
Tremors were felt across a wide swath of northern and central Pakistan. In Punjab, the shaking was experienced in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Mianwali, Multan, and the Potohar region. Other districts also reported mild to moderate shaking. Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Islamabad also felt the tremors.
Government Response
PDMA Director General stated that district administrations have been instructed to inspect buildings for any structural damage. The provincial control room and district emergency operation centers across Punjab remain active 24/7 to monitor the situation and coordinate any necessary response.
Residents in affected areas reported brief panic but returned to normal activities shortly after the tremors subsided. No aftershocks have been recorded as of the latest update.
