PESHAWAR: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi on Saturday launched a sharp critique against Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for imposing restrictions on inter-provincial wheat movement. Speaking to the media, the governor sarcastically questioned, "If Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz could be seen making bread in Baku, why has she been unable to ensure wheat supply to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa?"
Constitutional Violation Accusations
Kundi asserted that any restriction on wheat is a direct violation of the Constitution. He remarked, "Bringing wheat from Punjab is an even more difficult task than bringing gold biscuits." The governor urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to resolve the issue with "Shehbaz Speed" or alternatively remove barriers to wheat procurement from Sindh.
Federal System Under Fire
The governor further accused the federal system of depriving K-P of its due share of resources. He called on PML-N leaders from K-P to raise their voices for provincial rights, emphasizing that federal policies are denying the province its rightful resources, including electricity, water, and financial dues.
Kundi blasted the restrictions on wheat supply, questioning the consistency of federal policy and urging coordinated efforts between the Centre and provinces to address mounting governance and resource disputes. He reiterated that wheat restrictions amount to a violation of constitutional principles.
Call for Unity
The governor stressed that political leadership should prioritize the welfare of citizens over administrative bottlenecks. He stated, "All political stakeholders must work together for the resolution of provincial issues." Kundi emphasized that provincial institutions need to collaborate in the interest of K-P's rights and that broader inter-provincial cooperation is essential to resolve recurring policy tensions over essential commodities such as wheat.
