PESHAWAR: Advisor to the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister on Finance, Muzzammil Aslam, has declared that the province boasts the highest police budget allocation in Pakistan, underscoring the provincial government's strong commitment to security despite financial constraints.
Police Budget Allocation Details
Speaking to the media, Muzzammil Aslam revealed that the K-P police budget constitutes 8.7 per cent of the provincial budget, significantly higher than Punjab's 3.9 per cent. He pointed out that although K-P population is roughly one-third that of Punjab and half that of Sindh, the province has allocated Rs170 billion for security in the current fiscal year.
This allocation reflects the government's prioritization of law and order, even in the face of limited resources. The advisor emphasized that the increased funding is aimed at enhancing police capabilities and ensuring public safety across the province.
Comparatively, Punjab, with a much larger population, allocates a smaller percentage of its budget to police, highlighting K-P's focused approach on security. The Rs170 billion figure includes expenditures on personnel, equipment, and infrastructure improvements.
Muzzammil Aslam further noted that the provincial government is committed to maintaining this level of investment in security, recognizing its importance for stability and development. He urged other provinces to follow K-P's example in prioritizing police funding to combat crime and terrorism effectively.
