Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Shafi Jan has directed the relevant power authorities to immediately address prolonged and unannounced electricity outages in Kohat, expressing concern over the disruption caused to residents and businesses. The directive was issued during a meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Kohat, attended by Deputy Commissioner Nawaz Wazir, Assistant Commissioner Naveed Ahmad, former Gumbat Tehsil mayor Sajid Iqbal, Qasim Zubair (focal person to MNA Shehryar Afridi), local elders, and officials of the power utility.
Impact of Extended Power Cuts on Kohat District
Participants reviewed the impact of prolonged power cuts on domestic consumers, commercial activity, and public services, noting that extended outages had caused widespread hardship across the district. The meeting highlighted that unannounced load-shedding had severely affected daily life, with businesses reporting losses and residents facing difficulties in accessing basic amenities.
Minister’s Directive for Immediate Action
Shafi Jan said ensuring the uninterrupted provision of essential public services remained a priority for the provincial government and described unnecessary power outages as unacceptable. He directed the authorities to improve the electricity distribution system, rectify technical faults promptly, and ensure timely resolution of public complaints. The minister emphasised that practical improvements should be implemented without delay to provide immediate relief to consumers.
Power utility officials briefed the meeting on the challenges affecting electricity supply and outlined measures being taken to improve the distribution network. They cited aging infrastructure and increasing demand as key factors behind the outages, but assured that steps were underway to upgrade the system.
