Maryam Nawaz Calls for Unity and Patience in Muharram

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Thursday called on citizens to promote patience, tolerance and unity during Muharram, urging them to avoid sectarian discord and uphold harmony. In a message marking the beginning of the Islamic New Year 1448 Hijri, the chief minister expressed hope that the year would bring peace, security and prosperity to Pakistan and the wider Muslim world. She prayed for unity among Muslims and said the new Hijri year should serve as a source of development and stability for the country.

Significance of Muharram

Referring to the significance of Muharram, CM Maryam Nawaz said the month reminds Muslims of the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), whose stand against oppression continues to inspire people across generations. “The philosophy of sacrifice demonstrated by Imam Hussain (RA) remains a beacon for the oppressed and a challenge to tyranny in every era,” she said.

Call for Mutual Respect

The chief minister urged people to observe the sacred month in a spirit of mutual respect and restraint, stressing the importance of avoiding disagreements and divisions. She also said the Punjab government had put in place extensive security and administrative arrangements across the province to ensure peace and maintain law and order during Muharram observances.

CM Maryam concluded by praying for happiness, stability and prosperity for Pakistan and the Muslim Ummah in the new Islamic year.
