Mirpurkhas Forum Discusses Honour Killings and Child Rights

A District Forum meeting was convened under the Awaz Do programme of the Hari Welfare Association at a local hotel to deliberate on pressing social issues and formulate cohesive strategies for their resolution.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Director Human Rights Mirpurkhas Mueez Hussain Thebo, Deputy Director Social Welfare Anwar Hussain Khaskheli, Safe House In-charge Nusrat Mayano, along with representatives from the British High Commission, Care Pakistan, and UNICEF. Executive Director of the Hari Welfare Association, Akram Khaskheli, and other officials were also present. Representatives from various social organizations, including Shahzado Malik, Khalid Parvez, Qari Waheed, Radha Bheel, and Wali Muhammad Lashari, participated in the discussions.

Key Issues Discussed

Participants engaged in comprehensive deliberations on several critical issues, including the prevention of karo-kari (so-called honour killings), human rights violations, violence against women, labour rights, child protection, and the prevention of child marriages. The forum aimed to identify challenges and propose actionable measures to address these concerns effectively.

Importance of Strengthening the District Forum

During the meeting, participants unanimously emphasized the need to establish and strengthen the District Forum.
