Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz Calls for Permanent Early Market Closure
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has urged the provincial government to issue a permanent order for the early closure of markets across the province. This move is intended to conserve energy and enhance public safety, according to official sources.
Speaking at a high-level meeting in Lahore, the CM emphasized the need for a consistent policy rather than ad-hoc decisions. She highlighted that early market closures would not only reduce electricity consumption but also help maintain law and order during evening hours.
Maryam Nawaz directed the authorities to consult with traders and stakeholders before finalizing the plan. She stressed that the decision should be implemented uniformly across all cities and towns in Punjab.
The chief minister also reviewed the progress of ongoing energy-saving initiatives and instructed officials to ensure compliance. She warned that strict action would be taken against violators of the new regulations once enforced.
Trade unions have expressed mixed reactions, with some supporting the move for its potential benefits while others raise concerns about business losses. The government plans to hold further discussions to address these issues.
