Punjab Finance Minister to Present FY26-27 Budget Today

LAHORE: Punjab Finance Minister Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman will present the provincial budget for the fiscal year 2026–27 before the Punjab Assembly today (Tuesday), outlining the government’s strategy for boosting revenues, promoting investment, creating jobs, and strengthening social welfare programmes. The proposed budget, which will be presented for approval after receiving formal endorsement from the Provincial Cabinet, is the third budget of the Punjab government under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

Budget Session Details

During the budget session, the finance minister will brief lawmakers on the government’s fiscal priorities, budgetary allocations, and key policy initiatives for the next financial year. Speaking ahead of the budget presentation, Mian Mujtaba said the upcoming financial plan reflects the government’s commitment to pro-people policies, fiscal responsibility, and sustainable economic development. He emphasised that the budget incorporates concrete measures aimed at increasing provincial revenues, broadening the tax base, and further strengthening financial discipline to enhance Punjab’s fiscal self-reliance.

Focus on Business and Investment

The finance minister noted that the government would place special emphasis on the promotion of business, industry, and investment during the next fiscal year. He said comprehensive initiatives had been proposed to stimulate economic activity, encourage private-sector growth, and create new employment opportunities across the province. He further stated that education, healthcare, and social protection would remain among the government’s top priorities, with continued support for major welfare programmes aimed at providing relief to vulnerable and deserving segments of society.

The budget is expected to outline the government’s roadmap for sustaining economic momentum while addressing key development challenges facing the province in the coming fiscal year.
