A trader was shot dead and his three-year-old son critically injured in an apparent targeted attack linked to a longstanding family feud in the Model Town area of Burewala, police said on Tuesday.
Incident Details
The incident occurred in K Block, where the victim, identified as Anwar Kamal Khan, was standing with his three-year-old son, Syed Sultan, outside a shop when an armed assailant arrived on a motorcycle and opened indiscriminate fire. Anwar Kamal died at the scene after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds, while his son was critically injured. The child was shifted to a hospital for treatment.
Suspect Identified
Police identified the suspected attacker as Siddiqur Rehman, a resident of Bannu. A murder case has been registered on the complaint of the victim's wife, and police have launched raids to arrest the suspect.
Background of Feud
According to investigators, the attack appears to have stemmed from a longstanding family rivalry between Anwar Kamal and the suspect. Police sources said the victim himself had been accused in a murder case dating back to his teenage years. The investigation revealed that Anwar Kamal allegedly shot and killed a man at the age of 13 before fleeing the area. The feud reportedly escalated over the years, with rival families carrying out retaliatory attacks.
Authorities said one member of Anwar Kamal's family was later killed in the dispute, while his brother was also accused of killing two people in separate incidents linked to the same enmity.
Victim's Wife Statement
Speaking to police, the victim's wife said her husband had recently reached a reconciliation with his rivals and had returned to Burewala only a few days earlier. "We believed the dispute had been settled, but our enemies did not let it end. Today they killed my husband," she said.
