The election regulatory body of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has announced that general polls in the region will be held on July 27. According to an official notification, candidates can file their nomination papers with returning officers from June 9 until 4pm on June 19. The scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on June 20, and the commission will finalize the list of eligible candidates on the same day.
Appeals and Withdrawal Process
Candidates will have from June 21 to June 24 to file appeals against the rejection or acceptance of their nomination papers. These appeals will be heard on June 26 and 27 between 9am and 4pm. The last date for decisions on appeals will be June 28 to June 29. Candidates can withdraw their nomination papers until June 30 before 2pm.
Final Candidate List and Symbol Allocation
The list of contesting candidates will be published on July 1, and symbols will be allotted along with the final list on July 2. The announcement follows a recent ruling by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) declaring a halt on overseas posting of trade officers as illegal.
