Election authorities have finalized all preparations for the upcoming elections in Gilgit-Baltistan, where voting will take place across 10 districts spread over the region’s three divisions. A total of 403 candidates are competing for seats in 24 constituencies. According to Election Commission figures, 272 independent candidates and 131 candidates representing various political parties are in the race.
To facilitate the voting process, 1,389 polling stations have been established across the region, with all administrative and logistical arrangements now in place. According to the Election Commission’s Media Coordinator, election staff have been fully deployed. The polling workforce includes 1,389 Presiding Officers, 2,450 Assistant Presiding Officers and 2,450 Polling Officers.
Meanwhile, Gilgit-Baltistan Police said election-related political activity has intensified as polling day approaches, while the overall security situation remains stable and under control. Police officials stated that since May 1, a total of 614 political events and campaign activities have been held peacefully throughout the region. They added that 62 major public rallies and gatherings have taken place during the election campaign so far. Authorities have expressed confidence that the electoral process will be conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner under the existing security arrangements.
