KARACHI: Armed robbers have now set their sights on children, snatching mobile phones and other valuables from them in broad daylight. CCTV footage of the incident, which took place in Baloch Goth, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, has emerged, showing the brazen nature of the crime. One of the victims has approached the police, submitting an application at the Gulshan-e-Iqbal police station regarding the theft of his mobile phone.

Residents Alarmed by Rising Street Crime

Residents of the area have expressed deep concern, stating that street crimes have become a daily occurrence in Gulshan-e-Iqbal. Citizens are routinely deprived of their valuables, and the latest incident involving children has heightened fears. According to the complainant, Umar Mian Dad, he and several friends were sitting near House No. A/102A, Block 13-D/3, Baloch Goth, when three suspects on two motorcycles approached them. One of the assailants was armed with a pistol.

The robbers allegedly snatched mobile phones and cash from Umar and his friends before fleeing the scene. The victims were left shaken but unharmed. The police have registered a case based on Umar's application and are investigating the matter.

In a separate incident on Thursday night, motorcycle-riding robbers allegedly snatched a gold ring and other valuables from the wife of Syed Ashraf Ali, a senior reporter for the Express newspaper, in a street near the Sandflip Church area of Block 13-D/2. This has further underscored the deteriorating security situation in the locality.

Residents are urging the authorities to take immediate action to curb the surge in street crimes, especially those targeting vulnerable groups like children. The police have assured the community that they are increasing patrols and deploying additional personnel to high-risk areas.
