Rs130mn bridge collapses in DG Khan after minor rain

A newly constructed Bara Bridge and Vador Road project in Dera Ghazi Khan, built at a cost of Rs130 million, collapsed after failing to withstand even minor water pressure from the Vador hill torrent following recent rainfall.

Collapse Details

According to sources, the bridge and adjoining road, completed only a few months ago, gave way on June 4 after the hill torrent of Vador experienced a low-level flow triggered by rain on June 3. The collapse severed ground connectivity between several settlements, including Bela, Vador Zai, Dilana, Rakh Bela, Wahi Kangrani, and Kocha Wadani, cutting them off from Dera Ghazi Khan city.

Impact on Residents

Residents reported severe difficulties in transportation and access to basic services due to the destruction of the only viable route linking their villages to the urban center. The partial washing away of the road has further worsened the situation, leaving alternative routes either inaccessible or unsafe.

Demands for Action

Local communities have demanded immediate restoration of the damaged infrastructure and arrangement of alternative travel routes. They recalled that concerns regarding substandard construction materials had been raised months earlier by local representatives, who had reportedly warned the administration about poor workmanship and questionable material quality. However, no corrective action was taken at the time.

Residents are now calling for a full investigation into alleged negligence and corruption, demanding strict action against both the contractor and responsible officials.
