LAHORE: Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali Ijaz on Tuesday stated that 93 percent of development work under Phase-II of the Lahore Development Programme (LDP) has been completed. He directed all relevant departments to ensure timely completion of remaining projects while maintaining strict quality standards.
Review Meeting Highlights
Chairing a review meeting, the deputy commissioner was informed that construction of 6,400 streets had been completed under Phase-I, with an additional 804 streets also built. The meeting was told that a total of 16,410 streets would be constructed under the programme across the city.
The meeting received briefings that the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) had completed work on 646 streets, while the Metropolitan Corporation Lahore (MCL) had finished 94 percent of independent street projects under Phase-II. Development works include the provision of tuff tiles, PCC pavements, and sewerage infrastructure in various localities.
Infrastructure Improvements
The meeting was further informed that more than 197,000 streetlights are being provided across Lahore, and a target of laying 741 kilometers of sewerage lines has been set to improve civic facilities. The deputy commissioner directed authorities to complete all projects within prescribed timelines and strictly enforce the four-tier quality control mechanism.
He also instructed officials to obtain necessary NOCs before undertaking development works to avoid road-cutting disputes and ensure better coordination among departments. He emphasized that no payments should be released without verification by NESPAK and third-party evaluators, and any shortcomings identified during inspections should be rectified immediately.
