Backrooms Extended Edition with 15 Min Bonus Footage

A24 is bringing Backrooms back to theaters with an extended edition that includes 15 minutes of bonus footage, following the horror film's record-breaking box office success. The re-release, titled Backrooms: Everything Must Go Edition, is scheduled to arrive in theaters on July 3, according to listings on AMC's website.

Extended Edition Details

The extended version will have a runtime of 2 hours and 6 minutes and will feature a theatrically exclusive post-credit sequence containing additional footage created by director Kane Parsons. The 20-year-old filmmaker became one of the year's biggest breakout directors after adapting his viral YouTube horror series into a feature film.

Record-Breaking Box Office Success

Produced on a reported $10 million budget, Backrooms has earned more than $330 million worldwide, making it A24's highest-grossing film to date and one of 2026's most profitable theatrical releases. The psychological horror film stars Chiwetel Ejiofor as a furniture store owner who discovers an endless maze of mysterious liminal spaces beneath his store. Renate Reinsve portrays his therapist, while the supporting cast includes Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett and Lukita Maxwell.

Competitive Holiday Release

The re-release arrives during the busy Independence Day holiday weekend, where it will compete with major theatrical releases, including Pixar's Toy Story 5 and Universal and Illumination's Minions & Monsters. Backrooms is part of a broader trend of low-budget horror films achieving significant commercial success. Another recent breakout title, Obsession, also originated from a filmmaker who built an audience on YouTube before transitioning to feature films. A24 has not publicly commented on the theatrical re-release beyond the listings currently available through exhibitors.
