Disney Revives Ice Age Franchise with Boiling Point Teaser
Disney has officially revived its long-running animated franchise with the first teaser for Ice Age: Boiling Point, marking the return of the beloved series after a 10-year gap since its last theatrical instalment. The new film, set for release on February 5, 2027, continues the adventures of Manny, Sid, Diego, Ellie and Buck as they embark on a high-stakes journey through the chaotic Lost World.
The teaser showcases the iconic group being launched from a volcanic eruption into a dangerous landscape filled with lava flows, prehistoric creatures and unpredictable terrain. The Ice Age franchise, which first began in 2002, has remained one of animation's most recognisable series, with multiple sequels released across the 2000s and 2010s.
Franchise Legacy and Box Office Success
According to reporting from Collider, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs remains the highest-grossing entry in the franchise, earning nearly $886 million worldwide. Ice Age: Boiling Point reunites the original voice cast, including Ray Romano as Manny, John Leguizamo as Sid, Denis Leary as Diego and Queen Latifah as Ellie. Simon Pegg also returns as Buck, while fan-favourite characters Scrat, Crash and Eddie are featured in the teaser footage.
Production and Future Plans
The film is produced by Lori Forte and Patrick Worlock, with Disney positioning the project as a major animated release for its 2027 slate. While plot details remain limited, the teaser suggests a larger, more adventurous storyline that expands the franchise's 'Lost World' mythology. Industry observers note that the revival comes as Disney continues to revisit established animated properties for theatrical releases, aiming to reignite global audience interest in legacy franchises. A full-length trailer for Ice Age: Boiling Point is expected to arrive in late 2026, closer to the film's global theatrical rollout.
