Fable Reboot Launches February 23, 2027, New Trailer Reveals Jack of Blades

Microsoft has officially announced that the highly anticipated reboot of Fable, developed by Playground Games, will launch on February 23, 2027. This new release date follows a delay that pushed the game beyond its initially expected 2026 window. The announcement was made during the Xbox Games Showcase 2026, accompanied by a new trailer that provided fresh insights into the upcoming action role-playing game.

Return of a Classic Villain

The trailer also teased the return of Jack of Blades, one of the most iconic villains from the original Fable series. This nod to the franchise's history has excited longtime fans, hinting at connections to the beloved earlier titles.

Release Platforms and Pre-Orders

Fable will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox consoles, and PC via Steam. Pre-orders are now open, allowing players to secure their copy ahead of the launch.

A New Story in Albion

Set in the fantasy world of Albion, the reboot introduces a fresh narrative beginning in the rural village of Briar Hill. According to details shared by the developer, players start as a child whose heroic powers awaken. A mysterious stranger then turns the village, including the protagonist's grandmother, to stone, setting off a journey across Albion that will shape the fate of the world.

Fully Open World and Combat System

Playground Games has confirmed that Fable will feature a fully open-world version of Albion, allowing players to explore without the restrictions seen in previous entries. Combat will revolve around the series' traditional Strength, Skill, and Will system, combining melee combat, ranged attacks, and magic abilities. Returning enemies such as Hobbs and Balverines will appear alongside new creatures, including the fire-breathing Cockatrice.

Expanded Life Simulation Elements

Outside of combat, the game retains many of the life-simulation elements that defined earlier Fable titles. Players can purchase homes and businesses, take on jobs, build relationships, marry, raise families, and influence the world through their actions. The reputation system has been expanded significantly. Rather than relying on a simple morality meter, individual non-playable characters will react differently based on a player's actions and personal history. Playground Games says more than 1,000 fully voiced NPCs will populate Albion, with choices capable of permanently affecting towns, landscapes, and local communities.

Development Team

Development is being led entirely by Playground Games, best known for the Forza Horizon series. This marks the studio's first action role-playing game, and the team is leveraging its expertise to create a rich, immersive world.
