The FIFA World Cup 2026 is set to begin with a historic series of opening ceremonies across the tournament's three host nations: Mexico, Canada, and the United States. This marks the first time in World Cup history that the opening festivities are not confined to a single host city. Instead, FIFA has planned three interconnected ceremonies that showcase the identity and artistic heritage of each host nation while promoting a unified message of togetherness.
Mexico Kicks Off World Cup Celebrations
The first ceremony will take place in Mexico City on Thursday night, June 11, at 10:00 PM Pakistan Standard Time (PKT), ahead of the tournament opener between Mexico and South Africa. Mexico's showcase is expected to feature Indigenous performers, folkloric acts, and traditional papel picado artwork. Global music stars including Shakira and Burna Boy are expected to perform the official World Cup anthem, "Dai Dai." Other artists reportedly appearing include Tyla, J Balvin, Alejandro Fernandez, Lila Downs, Belinda, Danny Ocean, Mana, and Los Angeles Azules.
Schedule (PKT)
- Opening Ceremony: Thursday, June 11 – 10:00 PM
- Mexico vs South Africa: Friday, June 12 – 12:00 AM
Canada Takes Centre Stage on Friday Night
The second opening celebration will be held in Toronto on Friday, June 12, at 10:30 PM (PKT), before Canada's opening Group Stage match against Bosnia and Herzegovina. Built around the theme of a cultural mosaic, the event will highlight Canada's diversity through music, dance, and visual performances. Artists expected to perform include Alanis Morissette, Alessia Cara, Elyanna, Jessie Reyez, Michael Buble, Nora Fatehi, Sanjoy, Vegedream, and William Prince.
Schedule (PKT)
- Opening Ceremony: Friday, June 12 – 10:30 PM
- Canada vs Bosnia and Herzegovina: Saturday, June 13 – 12:00 AM
USA Ceremony Scheduled for Early Saturday Morning
The final opening ceremony will be staged in Los Angeles and will begin at 4:30 AM (PKT) on Saturday, June 13, before the United States face Paraguay. The American showcase is expected to feature large-scale visual productions and performances from major international stars including Katy Perry, Future, Anitta, LISA, Rema, and Tyla.
Schedule (PKT)
- Opening Ceremony: Saturday, June 13 – 4:30 AM
- USA vs Paraguay: Saturday, June 13 – 6:00 AM
Following each ceremony, FIFA's official pre-match programme, including player introductions and team walkouts, will begin approximately 25 minutes before kick-off as attention shifts from the celebrations to the start of the World Cup.
