The New York Knicks are looking to bounce back after their first loss since April, as the San Antonio Spurs aim to even the NBA Finals. The Knicks hold a 2-1 lead in the series heading into Game 4 on Wednesday.
Knicks' Impressive Postseason Run
Last time the Knicks lost a game, they responded with a dominant 13-game winning streak, one of the most impressive postseason runs in NBA history. Now, after dropping Game 3, they don't need such a dramatic turnaround. A 2-2 record the rest of the way would secure their first championship since 1973.
"We have a veteran group. Nobody is panicking," said Knicks coach Mike Brown. "We are disappointed we didn't execute to our standard. We look forward to showing what we can do."
Spurs' Confidence After Game 3 Win
The Spurs jumped on the Knicks early and outplayed them late in a 115-111 victory. Victor Wembanyama dominated with 32 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and three blocks. The Spurs, who won Game 7 on the road against the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference finals, showed no fear in a hostile environment at Madison Square Garden.
"We will see. But my bet would be yes, it's possible," Wembanyama said about winning the title without experiencing growing pains. Guard Stephen Castle added, "Since Game 2, we've been confident we will win this series."
Areas for Improvement for the Knicks
Despite their strong run, the Knicks have issues to address. Karl-Anthony Towns has struggled to score in the fourth quarter. Wembanyama has found ways to hurt them in the last game and a half. The Knicks need to reduce turnovers and defend better without fouling.
"We have 13 games of film showing what we look like at our best," said Towns. "We'll get back to our fundamentals and get to work for Game 4."
Game 4 is set for Wednesday, with the road team having won all three games so far. The Knicks aim to recover quickly to avoid heading to San Antonio with a tied series.
