The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday disposed of a petition challenging Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi's appointment as chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after the petitioner sought to withdraw the case, directing him to approach the appropriate forum instead.
Court Proceedings
Justice Awais Khalid passed the order while hearing a petition filed by citizen Ashba Kamran against Naqvi's appointment as PCB chairman. During the hearing, counsel for the PCB opposed the petition and argued that Naqvi had been appointed PCB chairman after fulfilling all legal requirements.
The petitioner's lawyer informed the court that they wished to withdraw the petition. The court allowed the withdrawal but directed the petitioner to approach the appropriate forum if he wished to pursue the matter further.
Background of the Case
The petition had challenged the legality of Naqvi's appointment, arguing that it violated certain rules and procedures. However, the PCB's counsel maintained that the appointment was made in accordance with the law and all necessary formalities were completed.
Naqvi, who also serves as the Interior Minister, was appointed PCB chairman in February 2024, replacing Zaka Ashraf. His dual role has been a subject of debate, but the court did not delve into the merits of the case due to the withdrawal.
