Netherlands Secure Top Spot in Group F
The Netherlands cruised into the 2026 World Cup Round of 32 as Group F winners after a 3-1 victory over Tunisia at Kansas City Stadium on June 25, 2026. The result eliminated Tunisia, who finished bottom of the group with zero points, 12 goals conceded, and only two scored.
Early Goals Seal Tunisia's Fate
Tunisia's campaign, already marred by heavy defeats to Sweden (5-1) and Japan (4-0), saw coach Sabri Lamouchi replaced by Hervé Renard after the opening loss. However, the changes did little to stem the tide. Within the first seven minutes, the Netherlands struck twice. First, an own goal by Tunisian captain Ellyes Skhiri from Donyell Malen's cross gave the Dutch the lead. Then, Virgil van Dijk's knockdown set up Brian Brobbey to make it 2-0, marking the fastest two-goal lead by any team in the tournament.
Tunisia's Brief Fightback
Tunisia showed glimpses of promise. Ismael Gharbi missed an early chance, and Anis Ben Slimane's header was saved by Bart Verbruggen. After a spell of pressure, Hazem Mastouri scored a header from a corner in the 52nd minute, giving Tunisia their second goal of the tournament. However, the Dutch responded swiftly. In the 62nd minute, Jan Paul van Hecke headed in from a corner to restore the two-goal cushion. Hannibal Mejbri's long-range effort was saved late on, ending Tunisia's attacking threat.
Netherlands Face Morocco in Round of 32
The Netherlands will now face Morocco at Estadio Monterrey on Tuesday. Japan, who drew 1-1 with Sweden, finished second and will play Brazil on Monday. Sweden advanced as third-place finishers, awaiting their opponent. Tunisia's World Cup campaign ends with a winless record and a defensive record that saw them concede at least one goal in the first seven minutes of every match.
