Rashid Ahmad Malik Defends ITF Masters Title in Oxford

Pakistan's leading ITF senior tennis star, Rashid Ahmad Malik, successfully defended his men's 60+ singles title at the prestigious ITF Masters MT200 Tennis Tournament in Oxford, England. The victory reaffirms his status as one of the country's most accomplished senior players.

Dominant Final Performance

In an impressive final, Malik outclassed the tournament's second seed, Graham Kirk of Great Britain, with a commanding 6-1, 6-4 victory to retain the championship in convincing fashion. The win highlights Malik's continued dominance in the 60+ age category on the international senior circuit.

Doubles Run and Narrow Defeat

Malik also enjoyed an outstanding run in the men's 55+ doubles event. Partnering Britain's Simon Elliott, he reached the final before narrowly losing to the British pair of Jeff Claridge and Colin Piper in a thrilling contest. After winning the opening set 7-5, Malik and Elliott were edged 6-7, 8-10 in a gripping super tie-break, coming agonizingly close to a second title.

Dedication to Pakistan

Speaking to The Nation after his triumph, Malik dedicated his latest international title to Pakistan and the country's tennis fraternity. “I once again dedicate this title to my beloved country and the tennis community. It is always an honour to represent Pakistan on the international stage,” Malik said.

Fellow Pakistani Success

Malik also congratulated fellow Pakistani senior player Shehryar Salamat, who captured the 45+ doubles title at the same tournament, describing it as another proud achievement for Pakistan. “I always encourage our senior players to participate in ITF Seniors events. Seeing Shehryar win a title is truly heartening. My mission remains to serve tennis, continue competing as long as I am fit, and proudly keep Pakistan's flag flying high around the world,” Malik concluded.
