Spinner Usman Tariq Confident Pakistan Will Bounce Back After India Loss

Spinner Usman Tariq stated on Tuesday that he is confident Pakistan can recover from their heavy defeat against India in the T20 World Cup and secure qualification for the next round. India's commanding 61-run victory means Pakistan must now defeat Namibia in their final group match in Colombo on Wednesday to advance to the Super Eights stage of the tournament.

Critical Match Against Namibia

A loss to Namibia would eliminate Pakistan from the competition. Currently, Pakistan sits third in Group A behind the USA based on net run rate. This scenario also leaves a slim chance for the Netherlands to qualify, but they would need a significant win over co-hosts India in Ahmedabad on the same day.

"Lifting the team is only difficult when you don't work on your mistakes committed in the last game," Tariq told reporters during a press conference. "We have worked on our mistakes so I think it will not be a tough task. We have a resolve not to commit the same mistakes again."

Addressing Fan Disappointment

Pakistan faced criticism for their decision to bowl first after winning the toss against India, followed by a meek batting collapse where they were bowled out for 114 runs in 18 overs while chasing a challenging target of 176. Tariq acknowledged the disappointment among fans, emphasizing the national significance of the match.

"We can feel their disappointment because the match is watched by the whole nation," Tariq said. "So we feel their pain but I am sure when we play them next we will put up a better show."

Support for Key Players

Tariq also dismissed rumors suggesting that batting star Babar Azam and pace spearhead Shaheen Shah Afridi might be dropped for the Namibia match due to their poor performances against India. He defended both players, highlighting their past contributions to the team.

"Both Azam and Shaheen have won many matches for Pakistan so if they did not perform well in one game we should not write them off," Tariq asserted, reinforcing the team's faith in their key performers.

Looking Ahead to the Namibia Clash

Pakistan has faced Namibia only once before in a T20 international, adding an element of unpredictability to the upcoming match. Despite this, Tariq expressed unwavering confidence in the team's abilities and their ultimate goal for the tournament.

"Whoever we play we have the confidence to beat them and our goal is to play the final and win the cup which we will try our best to achieve," he stated. Namibia, on the other hand, has lost all three of their group matches so far, making this a crucial encounter for both teams.
