Top players advanced in various junior, ladies and men’s categories at the 2nd Sohail University National Tennis Championship at Modern Club, Karachi.

Boys’ U-18 Singles Quarterfinals

In the boys’ U-18 singles quarterfinals, Islamabad’s M Yahya beat Nuaz Shahbaz of Lahore 6-3, 6-1 while Haziq Areejo outpaced Arham Shahzad 6-2, 6-2. Zain Nomi edged Ansarullah 7-6, 6-4 and Rashid Bachani of SNGPL beat Ruhab Faisal 6-1, 6-4.

Girls’ U-18 Singles

The girls’ U-18 saw Ayla Benazir beating Dua Yousuf 6-4, 6-4 while Rania Bus dominated Innara Akram 6-0, 6-0. In the semifinals, Eschelle Asif routed Ayla Benazir 6-2, 6-1, while Rania Bus downed Nooe Hilalay 6-3, 6-1.

Boys’ U-14 Singles

In the boys’ U-14 singles quarterfinals, M Muaz of Fatima Group outclassed Majid Bachani 4-0, 4-1, while Meer Bhagat defeated Keeyan Bus 4-2, 4-2. Aayan Shahbaz of Fatima Group thumped Syed Sufyan 4-1, 4-1, and Rashid Bachani beat Ansarullah 4-2, 4-1. Muaz then advanced to the final, defeating Meer Bhagat 4-2, 4-0.

Ladies’ Singles

The ladies’ singles event saw Eschelle brushing aside Taiba Yar Baig 8-1 and Eraj Batool humbling Varisha Khan 8-1.

Men’s Singles

Meanwhile, the men’s singles saw Yahya Bin Zain beating Huzaifa Lakhani 8-4, Haziq Areejo defeating Amir Mumtaz 8-4, and Raahim Veqar beating Nadir Bachani 8-4. Haziq then beat Yahya Bin Zain 8-2, while Raahim Veqar beat Ruhab Faisal 8-4.

Opening Ceremony

Earlier, the formal opening was held at the Modern Club, where Dr. Sabeeh Jaffery, Registrar Sohail University, was the chief guest. Other notables present on the occasion were Vice President Pakistan Tennis Federation Muhammad Khalid Rehmani, Director Sports Commissioner Karachi Ghulam Muhammad Khan and other sports personalities.
