Pakistan's senior military leadership has solemnly honoured the memory of a national hero, paying rich tribute to Nishan-e-Haider recipient Major Muhammad Akram on the occasion of his 54th martyrdom anniversary. Major Muhammad Akram Shaheed etched his name into history with acts of extraordinary bravery during the 1971 war. Commanding a company of the 4 Frontier Force Regiment in the Hilli sector of East Pakistan, he displayed exceptional courage and tenacity. On 19 May 1971, Major Akram resolutely held his defensive position against overwhelming odds, successfully denying the enemy any tactical advantage. Later, on 3 December 1971, he was tasked with leading an assault on heavily fortified enemy positions. With unwavering resolve, he personally destroyed three enemy tanks during the advance, fighting valiantly until he sustained severe injuries. He ultimately embraced Shahadat (martyrdom) on 5 December 1971, exemplifying the highest ideals of bravery and devotion to duty.
