National Games Torch Ignites Spirit at Lahore Women's University
A significant moment for sports unfolded in Lahore as the torch for the 35th National Games made a prestigious stop at the Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) on Thursday. The event was marked by a grand ceremony, celebrating the spirit of athleticism and national pride ahead of the major sporting spectacle.

The torch was formally received by the Vice Chancellor of LCWU, Prof. Dr. Uzma Qureshi, from a delegation that included Punjab Olympic Association CEO Idrees Haider Khawaja, along with several esteemed Olympians and athletes. The occasion was graced by the presence of Director Sports Dr. Sameera Sattar, numerous sports administrators from various colleges, and a vibrant gathering of students who gave the relay a rousing welcome.
In her address, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Uzma Qureshi expressed her honor at hosting the torch relay. She stated that the event brings great prestige to the institution and voiced strong support for the Punjab contingent. "We are hopeful for the success of the Punjab contingent and are confident that Punjab will win the trophy," she declared, boosting morale for the local team.
Massive Participation in the 35th National Games
The upcoming National Games are set to be a massive event, drawing participants from across the nation. Official figures reveal that more than 11,000 players and officials from different provinces and departments will be involved. This includes a total of 4,663 registered athletes, comprising 2,566 men and 2,097 women, who will compete for glory in a variety of sports.
The logistical timeline for the games is now confirmed. The arrival of all provincial and departmental teams is scheduled to begin on December 4, which is also the day the regular competitions will kick off. The sporting festival will conclude on December 13 with a closing ceremony.
The games will feature high-profile openings and closings. President Asif Ali Zardari is set to be the chief guest at the opening ceremony, adding significant stature to the event. Furthermore, the Prime Minister of Pakistan will attend the closing ceremony, underscoring the national importance of the games.
