Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) Health Minister Samuel-Roger Kamba stated on Tuesday that China has stood firmly with the DRC in addressing public health challenges. The remarks came during a meeting with Chinese Ambassador to the DRC Zhao Bin and Chinese medical experts assisting the country's Ebola response.
Minister thanks China for critical support
Kamba expressed gratitude to the Chinese government for sending medical experts at a critical stage in the DRC's fight against Ebola, describing the outbreak as a difficult public health task. He noted that China has honored its commitments and acted on its word by providing practical support to strengthen epidemic prevention, control, and public health emergency response capacity.
The DRC is willing to further deepen cooperation with China in epidemic surveillance, scientific research, clinical treatment, and personnel training, Kamba added.
Deep-rooted friendship and global health vision
Ambassador Zhao Bin highlighted the deep traditional friendship between China and the DRC, with bilateral health cooperation spanning more than half a century. He emphasized that the Ebola outbreak concerns not only the DRC's public health but also regional and global health. Zhao reaffirmed China's commitment to building a global community of health for all and readiness to continue providing support based on the evolving outbreak and the DRC's needs.
Chinese expert team brings experience
Gu Zhiqiang, head of the second batch of Chinese experts, said team members possess rich experience in epidemic prevention and control. The team will work under the DRC's arrangement and response system, strengthening exchanges and cooperation in epidemic assessment, laboratory testing, patient treatment, infection prevention and control, port health quarantine, and personnel training. The team arrived on Friday to take over from the first group.
