Information and Public Relations Minister Shafi Jan announced on Saturday that under Chief Minister Sohail Afridi's leadership, practical steps are being taken to digitize government services and strengthen modern governance.
Establishment of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Artificial Intelligence Authority
Shafi Jan confirmed that the provincial government will establish the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Artificial Intelligence Authority with a budget of Rs1 billion. The authority aims to integrate artificial intelligence into public services, streamline government operations, and advance AI applications in education. "Making Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa a centre of modern technology is the top priority of the present government," he stated. "Several important projects have been included in the current financial year's budget to achieve this goal."
Scope of Initiatives
The minister highlighted that the initiatives are designed to improve efficiency and transparency in government systems. The AI Authority will collaborate with educational institutions to promote AI research and skill development. Other technology-driven projects under consideration include digitizing land records, automating tax collection, and implementing smart monitoring systems for public works. The government aims to reduce bureaucratic delays and enhance citizen access to services through these measures.
Impact on Governance and Economy
These steps are expected to position Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa as a leader in digital governance among Pakistani provinces. The initiatives align with the federal government's Digital Pakistan vision and are anticipated to attract investment in the tech sector. Shafi Jan emphasized that the projects will create job opportunities for youth and foster a culture of innovation.
