A six-year-old boy who disappeared from outside his home in Karachi's Old City area on Monday was found dead, with police confirming on Wednesday that a neighbor has been arrested and confessed to the crime. The child's body was discovered stuffed in a sack near Old Haji Camp in the Lea Market area on Tuesday night.
Disappearance and Search Efforts
The victim went missing from outside his residence, prompting frantic searches by family members and neighbors. After failing to locate him, a kidnapping case was registered at the Napier Police Station. The family grew suspicious of a neighbor, detained him, and handed him over to police.
Arrest and Confession
South Deputy Inspector General of Police Asad Raza confirmed the arrest and stated that the suspect confessed to the crime. “Further investigation is underway,” he said. Investigators revealed that the suspect held a personal grudge against the child's father and admitted to sexually assaulting the child before killing him.
Family Allegations and Grief
Family members alleged that the child was murdered inside the suspect's residence, with the body mutilated, stuffed into a sack, and thrown from a three-storey building. A relative said, “He refused to let us check his house when we were searching for the child,” adding that the suspect pretended to assist in the search to deflect suspicion. The victim’s mother, overcome with grief, demanded strict punishment: “We want justice. The killer should be punished the same way he treated my son.”
Victim's Family Background
The victim was the only brother among five sisters. His father, a rickshaw driver, said the family had no known enmity with anyone. “My son was born after many prayers. He was our only son, and these cruel people have destroyed my world,” he said. Police said the case remains under investigation.
