Keanu Reeves in Early Talks for Lead Role in New Lego Film

Keanu Reeves is reportedly in negotiations to star in a new Lego movie that will combine live-action and animation, reuniting him with Toy Story 4 director Josh Cooley. The upcoming Lego film is being developed by Universal Pictures and The Lego Group, with plot details currently being kept under wraps.

Reunion with Toy Story 4 Director

According to reports from Deadline, the project marks another collaboration between Reeves and Cooley after their successful partnership on Pixar’s Toy Story 4. Reeves voiced Duke Caboom, the adventurous Canadian stuntman toy, and recently returned for Toy Story 5. The new Lego movie has been in development since Universal acquired the rights in 2020.

Development History and Production Team

The studio has reportedly explored multiple versions of the project with different writers and directors before moving forward with a concept built around Reeves as the lead character. Producers Jill Wilfert and Ryan Christians from The Lego Group are attached to the project. The film is expected to blend live-action storytelling with animated Lego elements, similar to the approach used in previous Lego movies.
