Veteran telecommunications executive Qaiser Khan has called for accelerated digital transformation, emphasizing that emerging technologies, supportive policies, and greater public-private collaboration are essential to unlocking Pakistan’s telecom potential and driving long-term economic growth. Currently serving as Group Head, People Experience South Zone at PTCL Group, Khan brings more than 20 years of experience across leading telecom organizations, including PTCL Group, China Mobile Pakistan (Zong), Huawei, and ZTE, where he has led projects in digital transformation, network operations, logistics, and organizational integration.
Telecom as Backbone of Digital Economy
Khan described telecommunications as the backbone of the digital economy, noting that the industry has evolved far beyond traditional voice and data services to become a key enabler of innovation across healthcare, education, manufacturing, transportation, and other sectors. He identified 5G, artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, cybersecurity, edge computing, and big data analytics as the technologies that will redefine Pakistan’s telecom landscape over the next decade. He said their successful adoption could accelerate smart city development, digital healthcare, online education, intelligent transport systems, and more efficient public services.
Policy and Collaboration Needed
Khan also stressed the need for regulatory stability, transparent spectrum policies, affordable 5G licensing, investment incentives for rural connectivity, tax reforms, and stronger cybersecurity and data protection measures. He added that closer collaboration between government, telecom operators, technology companies, and academia is vital to developing a skilled workforce capable of supporting Pakistan’s digital future.
“Pakistan’s telecommunications sector has immense growth potential, but realizing it requires a modern, innovation-driven policy framework,” Khan said.
