Just a few days after pushing Fable out of 2026, Microsoft showcased more footage of the upcoming RPG at its Xbox Games Showcase on Sunday. The company also announced a specific release date: February 23rd, 2027. However, those who purchase the Premium Edition will get early access starting February 18th.
Gameplay and Setting
The trailer from the showcase follows a dedicated gameplay overview shown earlier this year. Based on what Microsoft has revealed so far, the new Fable appears to deliver on the elements that fans loved about the original trilogy, including the fantasy RPG setting and a generous dose of British humor. When it launches, the game will be available simultaneously on Xbox, PC, and PS5.
Cast and Development
In a blog post on Sunday, Microsoft detailed the game's cast, which includes Hayley Atwell as the villain, Isabel. Developed by Forza Horizon maker Playground Games, Fable has been in development for several years. Microsoft first announced the game in July 2020, promising it would be a "new beginning" for the series. A first look at Fable was revealed in 2023, and a year later, Microsoft gave it a planned release window of 2025. The game was later delayed to 2026, and in late May, the release date was pushed again.
What to Expect
Fable marks the first new entry in the storied RPG franchise since 2010's Fable III. With its combination of fantasy elements and humor, the game is highly anticipated by fans. The simultaneous release on multiple platforms ensures a wide audience can experience the new adventure.
