Civil Lines police have registered a criminal case against a constable from New Town police after a drug peddler escaped from his custody from district courts in Rawalpindi.
Incident Details
Assistant Sub Inspector Faisal Mehmood from New Town police filed a complaint with Civil Lines police. He stated that he, along with Constable Madhah Hussain, brought Usman Ali alias Mani, a resident of Rahimabad, to the court to obtain his physical remand in a drug peddling case.
The ASI said he went to the office of the district public prosecutor to get his request for physical remand signed. He left the accused Mani in the custody of Constable Madaha outside a court. When he returned, the accused was absent, and the constable said Mani had escaped from his custody.
Negligence Alleged
The complaining ASI stated that the arrested man escaped from police custody due to sheer negligence on the part of Constable Madahah. He said he launched a search to trace the escaped accused but remained unsuccessful.
Legal Action
Civil Lines police registered the case under Pakistan Penal Code sections 223 (police officer accused of negligence leading to escape of under custody criminal) and 224 (intentionally escaping lawful apprehension).
