Emma Watson stepped back into the spotlight for a rare public outing, joining Prince William and Benedict Cumberbatch at a major environmental event during London Climate Action Week.
United for Wildlife Business Forum
According to People, the 36-year-old actress and activist attended The Royal Foundation's United for Wildlife Business Forum on June 22, where she joined the Prince of Wales, Cumberbatch, and broadcaster June Sarpong for a discussion about protecting the natural world and promoting sustainable business practices.
During the event, Watson stressed the importance of storytelling and transparency in inspiring younger generations to care about environmental issues. “Storytelling is really powerful,” she said onstage. “The story that you tell as a brand, and the transparency you have and the way that you talk around these issues, it matters. It matters to young people.”
Anecdote About Paparazzi and a Red Kite
The former Harry Potter star also shared a humorous anecdote from her younger years. Watson recalled spotting several men with long camera lenses outside her home and assuming paparazzi had come to photograph her, only to discover they were actually trying to capture a rare red kite bird that had been spotted nearby. “So, somebody went outside to address them and I snuck out another way,” she said. “It turned out that the men with the long lenses were actually not there for me, at all.”
Focus on Activism and Sustainability
Watson has largely stepped away from Hollywood in recent years, with her last major film role coming in Greta Gerwig's Little Women in 2019. She has instead focused on activism, education, and sustainability initiatives, having served as a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador since 2014 and helping launch the HeForShe campaign. The actress previously supported Prince William's Earthshot Prize, presenting the “Fix Our Climate” award at the inaugural ceremony in 2021.
Her appearance alongside the royal and Cumberbatch highlighted her continuing commitment to environmental causes. Though she has maintained a low profile in recent years, Watson's latest appearance demonstrated that she remains passionate about using her platform to advocate for issues she believes matter — especially for future generations.
