Four Yemeni children killed by explosive war remnants: official
Four Yemeni children killed by explosive war remnants

A military official in Yemen's government-controlled south reported on Monday that four children died and eight others sustained injuries from an explosion triggered by remnants of war in Al-Dali province. The official, speaking to AFP, provided a preliminary toll: three girls and one boy were killed, while eight other children suffered varying degrees of wounds, some critical. The victims ranged in age from six to 14 years old.

Background of the Conflict

Yemen has endured over a decade of conflict between the internationally recognized government and Iran-backed Houthi rebels. Explosive remnants of war frequently cause casualties, especially among civilians. The Al-Dali area witnessed fierce battles roughly 10 years ago when Houthi forces attempted to capture the southern city of Aden.

Recent Incidents

This tragedy follows a similar event less than two weeks earlier, when an explosion at a munitions depot in Aden killed at least 12 people, according to two security sources. The ongoing presence of unexploded ordnance continues to pose a lethal threat to Yemeni communities, particularly children who may unknowingly handle or disturb these devices.
