Heavy rainfall in Lahore on Tuesday brought an end to a period of intense humidity, lowering temperatures and providing much-needed relief to residents. However, the downpour also triggered widespread electricity disruptions after more than 70 feeders of the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) tripped, according to officials.
Rainfall Recorded Across Multiple Localities
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, showers were recorded across numerous parts of the city, including Abbott Road, Lakshmi Chowk, Shimla Pahari, Jail Road, Upper Mall, Mughalpura, Tajpura, Chowk Nakhuda, Pani Wala Talab, Farrukhabad, Gulshan Ravi, Samanabad, Shadipura, and Saggian. Saggian received the highest rainfall at 40.2 millimetres, followed by Pani Wala Talab with 39.2 millimetres, Chowk Nakhuda with 37.4 millimetres, and Lakshmi Chowk with 35 millimetres. Farrukhabad recorded 17 millimetres, while Mughalpura and Samanabad each received 4.6 millimetres. Gulshan Ravi recorded 4.2 millimetres, Upper Mall 3 millimetres, Tajpura 2.2 millimetres, and both Shadipura and Jail Road measured 1 millimetre. Light rainfall was also reported in several other localities.
Power Distribution Network Disrupted
The weather system disrupted LESCO's power distribution network, causing more than 70 feeders to trip and leading to multiple technical faults that interrupted electricity supply in various parts of the city. Power outages affected neighbourhoods including Qila Gujjar Singh, Samanabad, Walton Road, RA Bazaar, Harbanspura, Shalimar, Aamir Town, Baghbanpura, Shahdara, and several areas within Lahore's Walled City. Restoration efforts were underway as many residents continued to face prolonged electricity interruptions.
