Lahore has witnessed a significant decline in mobile phone snatching incidents during the first five months of 2026, according to police records. A total of 246 snatching incidents were reported from January to May 2026, compared to higher figures in the same period last year.
Sharp Drop in Registered Cases
Police data reveals that 133 cases of mobile phone snatching were registered in the first five months of this year, marking a substantial reduction from previous years. The decrease is observed across all major divisions of the city.
Division-Wise Breakdown
In the City Division, incidents fell from 36 last year to 32 this year. The Cantt Division saw a dramatic decline, with 15 cases registered this year compared to 42 in 2025. Civil Lines Division reported 16 incidents this year, down from 26 last year. Sadr Division recorded 18 snatchings this year, a sharp drop from 42 in the previous year. Iqbal Town Division had 26 cases this year versus 44 last year, while Model Town Division reported 26 incidents this year, down from 56 last year.
Police Efforts Credited
Authorities attribute the reduction to enhanced patrolling, targeted operations against criminal gangs, and improved surveillance in high-risk areas. The trend reflects a broader improvement in public safety in Lahore.
