LAHORE – The Lahore Police chief on Wednesday announced comprehensive security arrangements for 3,868 Majalis and 458 mourning processions during Muharram-ul-Haram in the provincial capital.
Security Plan Unveiled
CCPO Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana, while addressing a press conference at Police Lines Qila Gujjar Singh, unveiled the security plan. Senior police officers including DIG (Investigation) Zeeshan Raza, DIG (Operations) Faisal Kamran, SSP (Investigation) Muhammad Naveed, SSP (Operations) Tauqeer Muhammad Naim, and SP (Headquarters) Munazza Karamat were also present.
Details of Majalis and Processions
The CCPO added that 457 A-category, 2,610 B-category, and 801 C-category Majalis will be held across Lahore. Similarly, 104 A-category, 308 B-category, and 46 C-category processions will be taken out. Best security arrangements have been made for 373 Imam Bargahs and 93 mosques in the city, he said.
Massive Security Deployment
He further stated that more than 100,000 security duties will be performed by Lahore Police officers and personnel on a rotational basis to ensure peace and order during Muharram. Nine control rooms have also been established to continuously monitor the situation, he mentioned.
Traffic and Monitoring Plans
For public convenience, an improved traffic management plan has been devised. Real-time monitoring of processions and Majalis will also be ensured through the Punjab Safe Cities Authority and district administration control rooms operating 24/7, he announced.
Crime Reduction Update
Providing a security and crime related update, the CCPO said that serious crimes in the city have decreased by 55 percent in 2026 compared to last year, while robberies have declined by 58 percent. He added that property worth over Rs8 billion, including cash and valuables, has been recovered and returned to citizens since Jan 2023.
Legal Actions and Arrests
He further noted that over 1.332 million pending case challans have been submitted to courts and more than 100,000 proclaimed offenders have been arrested. The CCPO emphasized that a three-tier security plan has been implemented for the protection of mourners, while QR code-based systems and panic buttons will further strengthen security measures.
Zero Tolerance Policy
All field formations will remain on high alert and combing operations will continue. He also reiterated a zero-tolerance policy regarding adherence to procession routes and timings and strict enforcement of the ban on loudspeakers.
