Lahore Traffic Police Releases First AI-Based Helmet Compliance Survey Report
Lahore Traffic Police Launches AI Helmet Report

The Lahore Traffic Police has unveiled its first-ever Artificial Intelligence (AI)-Based Helmet Compliance Survey Report, a landmark initiative aimed at promoting evidence-based road safety enforcement. Conducted in collaboration with the Safe City Authority, the survey utilized advanced video analytics at 17 major intersections across the city's model roads during designated observation periods.

High Compliance Rate Recorded

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore, Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi, announced that the AI-powered survey recorded a total of 264,112 motorcycles passing through the selected locations. Of these, 256,473 riders were observed wearing protective helmets, while only 7,639 motorcyclists were found violating helmet regulations. This translates to an impressive overall helmet compliance rate of 97.11 percent, underscoring a significant improvement in public adherence to traffic safety regulations and the growing culture of responsible road use in Lahore.

Top Performing Intersections

According to the survey findings, IG Chowk Cantt recorded the highest helmet compliance at 99.65 percent, followed by International Hotel Chowk (99.54 percent), Canal Bridge Mall Road (99.24 percent), Medical Chowk (99.17 percent), Davis Road (98.83 percent), and Faisal Chowk (Assembly Hall) (98.81 percent). Similarly, Doctors Hospital (98.63 percent), Canal View (97.53 percent), Avari Hotel Chowk (97.23 percent), Governor House (95.65 percent), High Court Chowk (93.42 percent), Askari-10 (92.88 percent), Main Boulevard (92.22 percent), Canal–Ferozepur Road (90.78 percent), Jail Road Canal Bridge (90.60 percent), Jail Road Race Course (88.55 percent), and FC College Underpass (83.96 percent) also demonstrated encouraging levels of helmet compliance.

Importance of Helmet Use

Highlighting the importance of helmet use, CTO Lahore Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi stated that international medical evidence confirms that the consistent use of certified helmets can reduce the risk of severe head injuries by up to 40 percent. He further noted that motorcyclists account for approximately 73 percent of fatal road traffic casualties, making helmet compliance one of the most critical measures for saving lives and reducing the severity of road crash injuries.

He further observed that Lahore currently has over 8.2 million registered vehicles, of which more than 6.1 million are motorcycles, making two-wheelers the dominant mode of transport and, consequently, the most vulnerable category of road users. In light of this, the Lahore Traffic Police has designated Mall Road, Jail Road, Canal Road, Main Boulevard, and the Cantt area as No-Helmet, No-Entry Corridors, where helmetless motorcyclists will not be permitted to travel.

Expansion of Zero-Tolerance Policy

The CTO Lahore announced that the existing Zero-Tolerance Enforcement Policy will now be expanded beyond the designated model roads to all major adjoining arteries and key urban corridors. Enforcement teams have been directed to ensure strict and uniform implementation of helmet laws without exception.

Reaffirming the Lahore Traffic Police’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding human life, CTO Lahore urged all motorcyclists to make helmet use a non-negotiable part of every journey. He emphasized that wearing a helmet is not merely a legal obligation but a vital responsibility that protects lives, minimizes the impact of road crashes, and contributes to a safer road environment for all.
