A lightning strike killed 22 goats and a cow during a severe storm near the Hamzali Nao check-post in the Pased-Khel area of Landi Kotal, local residents reported on Thursday. The incident occurred amid heavy rain and thunderstorms that swept through the region.
Livestock Belonged to Several Families
According to former local councillor Shawas Jan, the livestock belonged to several families from Awal Khan village. The animals were grazing in the area when the lightning struck, resulting in immediate death for all 23 animals. The loss has dealt a severe blow to the affected households, many of which depend on livestock as their primary source of income and livelihood.
Financial Impact and Compensation Appeal
Shawas Jan urged the government and district administration to provide compensation and financial assistance to help the families recover from their losses. Local residents also called on the authorities to conduct an assessment of the damage and extend relief to those affected by the natural calamity. The incident is expected to place an additional economic burden on the affected families, especially ahead of Eidul Azha, when animals represent an important source of household income in many rural communities.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly has been exploring AI-driven financial reforms, but immediate relief for these families remains a pressing concern. The community hopes for swift action to mitigate the financial hardships caused by this tragic event.
