Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Friday directed authorities to immediately address public issues highlighted by members of the Punjab Assembly and announced that the provincial government’s electric bus service would soon be extended to Tulamba, Mian Channu and other parts of Khanewal district. The directives were issued during a meeting with lawmakers from Khanewal district, who briefed the chief minister on development needs and public service issues in their constituencies.
Lawmakers Present at the Meeting
Among those present were MPAs Amir Hayat Hiraj, Chaudhry Ziaur Rehman, Rana Muhammad Saleem, Akbar Hayat Hiraj, Rana Babar Hussain Abid, Osama Fazal and Asghar Hayat Hiraj. The chief minister also ordered the immediate reconstruction and repair of the damaged bridge on the Khaliqabad-Tulamba Road (SM Link) to improve connectivity and facilitate local residents.
Appreciation for Government Initiatives
During the meeting, the lawmakers appreciated the provincial government’s infrastructure and transport initiatives, particularly the construction of the Multan-Vehari Road and the launch of the electric bus service in Khanewal district. They conveyed the gratitude of local residents and described the transport project as a major step towards improving public mobility.
Lawmakers' Remarks
Speaking on behalf of his constituency, MPA Amir Hayat Hiraj said the people of Khanewal welcomed what he termed Pakistan’s most modern public transport system. Rana Muhammad Saleem described the launch of the electric bus service as the beginning of a new era of modern public transport in the district, while Akbar Hayat Hiraj termed the project a major relief for the residents of Kabirwala and adjoining areas. Chaudhry Ziaur Rehman said the people of Jahanian were also grateful to the chief minister for extending the facility to their region.
Chief Minister's Vision
Maryam Nawaz said the expansion of the electric bus network reflected the government’s commitment to providing modern, affordable and environmentally friendly transport across Punjab. She stressed that access to quality public transport was the right of the people of Khanewal, Jahanian, Kabirwala and other districts, rather than a favour by the government. The chief minister said the provincial government planned to induct 1,500 electric buses to expand the service across Punjab, adding that the initiative represented not only an improvement in public transport but also the beginning of a modern transport culture in the province.
Commitment to Public Services
She reiterated that the government would continue to prioritise projects aimed at improving public services, strengthening infrastructure and addressing the everyday problems of citizens across Punjab.
