Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif has launched an electric bus service in Attock district, calling it affordable, safe, and environment-friendly transport her government's “top priority.” The inauguration ceremony was viewed live at the DC Office Attock on Tuesday.
Nine Electric Buses Handed Over in First Phase
Nine modern electric buses were handed over to the district in the first phase. According to officials, the service will operate on two routes to improve connectivity across the district. The first route will run from POF Sanjwal Barrier No. 2 via Bab e Attock to Hazro, with 26 bus stops established along the way. The second route will connect Government College of Technology Dhok Fateh to Attock Khurd, covering 19 stops.
Free Travel for Students, Women, Senior Citizens
In a major relief for commuters, travel will be completely free for students, women, senior citizens, and special persons. Addressing the ceremony, Member National Assembly Sheikh Aftab Ahmed described the launch as a “historic gift” for the people of Attock. “Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif is setting new standards of public service,” he said. “This electric bus service will provide dignified, comfortable, and cost-effective travel facilities to citizens.” He credited the PML-N government with delivering practical welfare projects, citing the “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” housing program, easy loans, farmer initiatives, and the laptop distribution scheme.
District Administration Implements Welfare Directives
Deputy Commissioner Attock Rao Atif Raza said the district administration was implementing the Chief Minister's directives for rapid public welfare delivery. “The electric bus service will provide modern travel facilities, and the shift to environment-friendly transport will also help reduce pollution,” he noted. Chairman WASA Punjab MPA Chaudhry Sher Ali added that the buses would improve urban mobility while protecting the environment. “The Punjab government is taking historic steps in public welfare, education, health, housing, and employment,” he said.
Leaders Hail Focus on Common Citizens
Former Provincial Sports Minister Jahangir Khanzada and PML-N Leader Malik Hameed Akbar Khan said the service showed the government's focus on direct relief for the common citizens. The event was attended by DPO Attock Sardar Mavarhan Khan, Additional Deputy Commissioner General Anil Saeed, Assistant Commissioner Arif Qureshi, Secretary RTA Sardar Zaheer Ahmed Khan, and other PML-N leaders and officials. Participants thanked Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif for bringing the service to Attock and expressed hope that similar welfare projects would continue to improve quality of life across Punjab.
