Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz's government in Punjab has delivered unprecedented relief to farmers and commuters, with over 30,000 Green Tractors distributed in just two years—more than the total 20,000 tractors provided from 1947 to 2022. The government has also introduced 1,100 electric buses and a Kissan Card programme covering 900,000 farmers, aiming for one million beneficiaries.
Agricultural Reforms Transform Farming
Agriculture is the backbone of Punjab's economy, and the Maryam Nawaz administration has introduced transformative initiatives. For the first time, farmers have received practical support rather than empty promises. According to the government, farmers themselves acknowledge that Maryam Nawaz has restored their dignity.
Key initiatives include the distribution of 30,000 Green Tractors with subsidies of up to Rs1 million each. Additionally, 1,000 Green Tractors were provided free to wheat growers. A further 20,000 Green Tractors will be distributed via transparent balloting. The Kissan Card programme has distributed 900,000 cards, with a target of one million by next month. The government has also solarised 8,000 tube wells and distributed 5,000 Super Seeders for sustainable farming.
Agriculture Malls and Crop Yields
Agriculture Malls have been established in Faisalabad, Jhang, Okara and Khanewal, offering one-stop facilities for farmers. As a result, wheat production has increased significantly, and rice production is expected to rise in the current season.
Green Electric Buses Revolutionise Transport
The government has introduced Green Electric Buses to provide affordable, air-conditioned, Wi-Fi-equipped transport. Over 1,100 electric buses now operate across Punjab, serving hundreds of thousands daily. The chief minister announced that electric buses will be introduced in all 147 tehsils, with a fleet of 5,000 buses planned over five years. Currently, 1,500 buses are being allocated to 91 tehsils.
Empowering Students and South Punjab Focus
In the first year, 2,178 electric bikes were distributed to students across urban and rural districts without discrimination. South Punjab has received special attention in all major development initiatives.
