Officer transferred after reporting canal water theft

FAISALABAD - Questions have emerged over the transfer of a female Irrigation Department officer after she reported alleged canal water theft in Hafizabad, while no action has reportedly been taken against the accused landowners.

According to official documents, Zilladar Aqsa Younas detected the alleged illegal use of canal water through unauthorized pipes during an inspection at Rajbah Channi Mouza in Vichhoki Khurd. The landowners were allegedly irrigating around 58 acres of farmland using water drawn directly from the canal system.

The officer reportedly recorded video evidence and submitted a detailed report to senior officials, including the Executive Engineer of Khanki Division and the Sub-Divisional Canal Officer. However, sources claim that neither a compensation case nor an FIR has been registered despite the evidence.

Farmers from nearly 15 villages served by the canal system allege that the water theft has disrupted irrigation supplies and adversely affected agricultural activities in the area. They have called for an impartial inquiry and strict action against those responsible.

In a separate incident, seven people died after suffering electric shock in Multan and Bahawalpur.
