Peshawar Residents Demand Action Against Soaring LPG Prices
Peshawar Residents Demand Action Against LPG Price Hike

Peshawar residents have called on Commissioner Riaz Masud and the district administration to take immediate action against what they describe as an unjustified increase in liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices amid persistent low Sui gas pressure in several parts of the city.

Citizens Complain About Rising Costs

Citizens from areas including Dalazak Road, Supply Depot, Garibabad, Corporation Colony, Nauthia Jadeed and neighbourhoods within the Walled City complained that LPG prices had risen sharply in recent weeks, placing an additional financial burden on households already grappling with rising living costs. According to residents, the retail price of LPG has increased from around Rs310 per kilogram to as much as Rs600 per kilogram in some localities.

Allegations of Inadequate Monitoring

They alleged that inadequate market monitoring had enabled certain dealers to charge prices well above prevailing rates, while consumers had little alternative due to the continuing shortage of natural gas. Residents said the situation was particularly difficult for families relying on LPG for cooking and other domestic needs, as low gas pressure had disrupted regular household supplies in several neighbourhoods.

Call for Enforcement and Action

Many complained that official price lists were either not displayed at retail outlets or were not being effectively enforced, and urged the authorities to intensify inspections and take action against any violations. The residents called on the district administration to ensure strict implementation of official pricing mechanisms, improve market oversight and guarantee the availability of LPG at regulated rates.

Demand to Address Gas Shortage

They also urged the relevant authorities to address the issue of low Sui gas pressure, arguing that the shortage had increased dependence on LPG and contributed to rising demand across the city. Officials were yet to issue a formal response to the residents’ concerns at the time of filing this report.
