LAHORE - The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Sunday uncovered another illegal operation involving the extraction of oil from animal fat and offal during a raid in the suburban area of Jagoki Pul.
Details of the Raid
PFA Director General (DG) Syed Musa Raza informed media that enforcement teams conducted the operation based on intelligence reports about the unlawful activity. Authorities seized two processing pans, 104 empty tins, five drums, a pump, a generator and two shovels used for preparing and extracting oil from animal fat.
Legal Action Initiated
The DG PFA stated that the suspects were preparing to extract oil from animal fat and waste products when the raid occurred. A case has been registered against those involved, and further legal proceedings have been initiated.
DG Syed Musa Raza noted that the operators failed to provide mandatory documentation showing that the extracted oil was being supplied to any registered biodiesel company. No agreement or contractual record with any soap manufacturing unit was produced during the inspection. The suspects were unable to present essential traceability records and other legally required documents regarding procurement, processing and intended use of the material, raising serious concerns about the nature of the operation.
Commitment to Food Safety
The DG emphasized that strict monitoring and enforcement measures are being undertaken to curb food fraud and prevent misuse of animal by-products in the food supply chain. Intelligence-based operations across the province are being accelerated to identify and eliminate illegal businesses involved in adulteration and food fraud.
Syed Musa Raza said that provision of safe and quality food is the fundamental right of every citizen and that the Punjab Food Authority is utilizing all available resources to safeguard public health. He warned that strict action will continue against individuals and groups found involved in activities that pose risks to consumer health or violate food safety regulations, adding that no compromise will be made on food quality and public safety.
