The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has intensified its campaign against food adulteration in Multan, conducting raids on papad manufacturing units, drink corners, and a soda water plant. The operations led to the confiscation and destruction of large quantities of substandard food items, including 370 kilograms of rotten potatoes and substandard spices, 350 litres of contaminated solution, 40 litres of substandard soda water, and 152 sachets of banned gutka.
Raids Across Multiple Areas
According to PFA officials, food safety teams inspected several businesses on Bahawalpur Road, Bahawalpur Chowk, 17-Kasi, and Rashidabad areas. During the inspections, authorities found rotten potatoes, open and substandard spices, and contaminated solutions being used in the preparation of papad and other food items. The enforcement teams seized and destroyed the adulterated products on the spot.
Fines Imposed on Violators
In addition to the confiscations, five food outlets were fined a total of Rs145,000 for violating food safety regulations and hygiene standards. The fines were imposed for using substandard ingredients, maintaining unhygienic conditions, and failing to comply with PFA regulations.
DG PFA Warns of Strict Action
Speaking on the occasion, Director General PFA Syed Musa Raza stated that strict action would continue against those involved in adulteration and fraud in food products, particularly items commonly consumed by children. He directed food business owners to strictly comply with food safety laws to ensure the availability of safe and quality food. The crackdown was conducted on the directions of DG PFA as part of an ongoing campaign to protect public health.
