Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan's dedication to the global objective of ensuring access to safe and nutritious food, free from contamination and disease risks. In his message on World Food Safety Day, the Prime Minister emphasized that all stakeholders in agriculture and food systems—including farmers, livestock breeders, fishermen, researchers, and food safety experts—play a crucial role in achieving food security. He paid tribute to their invaluable contributions and unwavering commitment.
The Prime Minister stated that the Federal Ministry of National Food Security and Research is implementing comprehensive measures to bolster food security, enhance agricultural productivity, and mitigate the effects of climate change through agricultural research and technology-driven solutions. He noted that Pakistan is endowed with fertile land, diligent farmers, and abundant agricultural resources and potential. However, the agriculture sector continues to face significant challenges, such as limited research, climate change, water scarcity, population growth, and evolving food consumption patterns.
Shehbaz Sharif said the government is developing an integrated strategy to tackle these issues. The measures include providing quality seeds, improving the availability of agricultural inputs, increasing the use of modern farm machinery, strengthening agricultural value chains, and enhancing storage and market systems. He urged the nation to renew its commitment to valuing and protecting food and natural resources, so that Pakistan can achieve a safe, nutritious, sustainable, and self-sufficient food future.
